Alpine Escapism at Big Bear's Premier Floating Tiki Lounge

Tiki Oasis has wrapped up, but the island mood is still running high across Southern California. When people think about a mountain getaway, the standard playbook usually involves heavy plaid jackets, logs on the fire, and a hot pot of campfire stew.

While there is a time and place for traditional cabin life, the best tiki bar on Big Bear Lake breaks the mold by trading pine cones for palm fronds. Sitting at 6,700 feet above sea level, this floating tropical paradise completely redefines what a getaway in the pine trees looks like.

The Soul of Tiki: Escapism at 6,700 Feet

What does tiki actually mean? Strip away the kitsch, and tiki is fundamentally about deep, immersive escapism.

Think about that exact moment right when you clock out of your last shift before vacation. Once you step away from your desk, you feel the week’s stress slide away. You know you have a fresh adventure ahead and some much-needed relaxation waiting for you.

That’s the feeling that Tiki captures. It is a portal out of the everyday grind and into a world where worries evaporate, time slows down, and the background noise of daily life fades into island tunes.

Bringing that mindset up to a high-altitude lake turns traditional mountain expectations upside down. When you hop onto the tiki boat, you are stepping into a floating sanctuary that transports you straight into vacation mode the second your feet leave the dock.

High Altitude Mixology and Rethinking Tropical Drinks

Real tiki culture built its international reputation on depth, balance, and craft. It sits miles away from the sticky, neon-red syrup pumps, artificial colorings, and sugary pre-mixes found at generic beach bars.

A cheaply made drink might make you feel like you are off the clock for an hour, but an authentically crafted cocktail takes you to an entirely new, decadently tropical destination. Behind the bar, true craftsmanship takes center stage:

  • Fresh-Squeezed Citrus: Tangy limes, bright lemons, and fresh juices pressed daily to balance rich spirits.

  • House-Made Syrups: Original house recipes, including nutty almond orgeat and spice-infused velvet falernum.

  • Curated Rum Blends: Carefully selected blends of light, dark, and spiced rums layered to create deep, nuanced flavor profiles.

At Big Bear Tiki Tours, sip on hand-crafted tiki drinks while floating past towering pine trees, rugged shorelines, and massive granite peaks.

What Guests Say On Board

Here’s a review that sums up the Big Bear Tiki Tours experience perfectly:

The first time I saw this cute pontoon with a palapa roof from far away on the lake was last year, when my friend and I were out sailing on my boat.

I joked, "Under a roof like that they better serve some tropical cocktails."

"They do", said my friend.

"Then I definetly have to take a tour on it", was my response.

Time went by, and I forgot all about it but this season the palapa boat moved to our marina and I knew that it is a sign to finally take a tour.

First, I need to say a few things about the boat itself.

From the first glance you can see that boat was made by people with vivid imagination who pour all their love into it.

And yet, it is highly functional and well-thought-out.

Tours run by lovely couple Lindsay and Trevor.

The ride had a soothing, enchanting atmosphere that no ordinary bar or standard boat tour can provide.

Lindsay’s perfect boat piloting skills (you have to see her dock) and Trevor’s great bartending skills was a wonderful addition to that atmosphere.

The only downside of this tour is that it ruined regular bars for me, now they look dull and boring.

I just love the idea of a raft bar.

GOOD BAR HAS TO FLOAT!!!

Quick Tips for Your High Altitude Escape

  1. Reserve tickets early online. Spots on the boat fill up fast, especially during peak summer weekends.

  2. Bring warm layers. High-altitude mountain breezes cool down quickly the moment the sun drops behind the granite peaks.

  3. Gather your crew. Tropical mountain cruises are always better when shared with a great group of friends.

Ready to Catch the Wave

Skip the long lines at the airport, the security checkpoints, and the costly flight to Hawaii. You can step directly onto a floating mountain island cruise right here in Southern California.
